You can always relay on Hayle Surf Life Saving Club to be on the beach on Christmas Day morning ready to take the plunge for their ?traditional? swim. This ?tradition? originates in Australia where of course it is their Summer but not to be outdone we Pommes still make sure we do our duty even though there is a great deal of difference in temperature! This year was no exception and despite all the bugs that have plagued us all this Christmas and the tide out as far as it could be, Hayle members, family and friends turned out in force to dunk their bodies in the cold, cold sea without the benefit of a wetsuit. Two crazy members of the Club, Pezz Perry and Phil Needham, who have been in Goa over the last 3 months training Indian Lifeguards made the trip home just so they could take part as they thought a dip in the warm Arabian Sea was taking the soft option compared with the Atlantic Ocean! A hot shower, some mulled wine and chocolates was there just reward.

Oveer 70 Nipper and Junior members of Hayle Surf Life Saving Club together with their Parents and younger and older silblings enjoyed a Fun Day of events on Hayle beach on Sunday 4 October to mark the end of the Summer. Everyone who took part received a goody bag with contents donated by the Propritors of Cove Cafe, Cornwall College and Club members. Organiser of the event, Traci Parker, said "We had a really good day with everyone enjoying themselves & the BBQ afterwards. The events were loosely based on the things that the Nippers do at their competitions so it gave the Parents a taste of the physical effort that is needed to complete some of the more strenuous races, particularly those in the sea. "

On Wed 8 July club members did their bit for Anglo/French relations when we welcomed a group of French youngsters from Pordic in Brittany to our evening training session. As they had been in the sea already that day having surfing lessons they were happy to stay on dry land and join in with Beach Flags. Language was a bit of a barrier but a good time was had by all.

A very big thank you to Nippers, Esme & Freya Adams dad, James who very generously at our recent club do donated £500 towards the cost of Nipper rash vests for our Nipper sessions on the beach. James has donated the money from his business - Ladydowns Christmas Trees - and will also donate a Christmas Tree for our Clubhouse in December. James sells his Christmas trees during December from the side of the road in Long Rock, nr Penzance - next to Chris Nicholls Motors on the main road. If you want a real tree this year please consider buying one from him, his telephone no is 01736 350475 or 07787 111500

.Hayle Surf Life Saving Club members, family and friends recently enjoyed an excellent evening at the HE Bar at Cornwall College to celebrate their achievements in 2009.
